Repeat

Are you seeing a theme? Because I sure am. Striped tops and blue bottoms. Today, I needed an easy, comfy outfit for running errands around town and for going to the brand new Goodwill that just opened this week!  Yeah, that's right.  I managed to hit it on the second day it was open. I found a jacket and blouse from J.Crew, a Land's End tee (kid's I think), and a Michael Pollan book.  All in all a good haul.

Accidental Tory Burch

So, I went out to buy a glue gun and came home with a Tory Burch dress. This has happened to you, right? I had to go to Hobby Lobby to get the glue gun. I knew I was going to drive by one of my favorite thrift stores going to and from. I mentally debated whether or not I wanted to stop. "I've done quite a bit of thrifting this week." "I need to start sticking to my shopping budget." "Blah, blah, blah." I finally decided, "Well, I'll go in and look. I don't have to buy anything." How many of you have used this rationale and had it backfire on you?

Dresses

Anyway fast forward to the dress section. I'm quickly skimming the rack and an orange Mexican inspired number catches my eye. I go for the tag thinking at the very least it's some teenage brand, American Eagle or some such. Nope. Tory Burch. $4.00. A few dresses down, the lovely vintage floral number. Perfect fit. $5.00.

Board

I also picked up a cork board already covered in fabric for $1.75. It makes a perfect display for my necklaces.

New Pants

When thrifting/shopping second-hand I try to buy either unique vintage items or nice brands I would buy new.  I generally try to avoid the fast fashion brands (Target, F21, etc.).   Sometimes, though I find something that is so cheap and fun, I can't resist.  These Forever21 pants were $6.00 at Plato's Closet.  I don't have any colorful pants, so I thought that they would make a nice addition to my wardrobe and a good alternative to skirts.

Engagement Photos Preview!

We did something really fun this past weekend, we had our engagement photos taken.  I received a few preview images and I can't wait to share them with you.  The talented lady behind the camera is our friend and photographer Meredith Mashburn.  She was able to perfectly capture our quirky, vintagey style.  Please check out Meredith's page on Facebook to see all the other wonderful images she is responsible for.

We had our pictures made at a local picturesque location, War Eagle Mill.  The Mill's rural location provided a multitude of shooting spots.  Fields, the river, the bridge over said river, a random barn on the side of the road (don't worry, we asked permission).  Despite the extreme heat, we had such a fun day, even my fiance who hates to have his picture taken.  After the shoot, D admitted that it wasn't so bad, it was even pretty fun.  It made him feel like a model.

Now on to other important matters, the clothing. The skirt I'm wearing is actually the first thing I ever ordered from Anthropologie. I bought this, gosh it had to be six years ago. It really is a testiment to buying something you love. I don't think it's ever been on the blog, but I love this skirt and wear it often, even after six years. My shirt is new, I bought it the day of from Banana Republic. It's the first item I've bought from BR this year! I really have been good in my not shopping "new". I'm not counting this as one of my pieces for my Spring 5 Piece French Wardrobe, I think I should get a few free passes. Can I get everyone's permission for two free passes? One for an engagement photo blouse and one for a wedding gown, two new items that won't count on my 5PFW.

Cloudy Day Can't Dampen My Mood

Today is one of the first overcast days we've had in a long time. I took that as my cue to dress extra colorfully today. My future's looking bright! Well at least my clothes are.

Hire Me

Is it bad that I only have one summer interview outfit?  What if I have a call back interview?  Would people notice that I'm wearing the same clothes?  I guess I should invest in another summer suit.  However, if I get this job today, I may never need an interview suit again.  Without further ado, the summer interview outfit.

Thrifted Paper Doll

Alright, you've probably guess by now, but I gave up on my 30 for 30 or 24 for 30 or whatever.  My biggest problem this time around was trying to keep everything clean.  In the winter you can usually get two wears out of most clothing, but not with summer.  I was lucky to make it all the way through one day with the same outfit on.  I guess I made a valiant effort with my 24 for 28?, especially considering everything that has been going on in my non-blogging life.

I had several more outfits planned with my chosen items.  Honest, I did.  I promise I'll wear them (once the items come through the wash).  Now on to more pressing items, like today's outfit.

As most of you know, today is Paper Doll Project and EBEW Special Thrifted Edition.  My PDP partner Suze of Miss Vinyl Ahoy (and PDP founder) devised a outfit for me that covers both bases.  My chosen item was this teal thrifted skirt.  It was originally a midi skirt, but looked a little frumpy, so I hemmed it up during the commercial breaks of "So You Think You Can Dance".

Suze specified this yellow polka dot top and pink accessories.  In honor of EBEW Thrift Edition, I chose to use all second hand items.  Blouse and belt not strickly thrifted, but they are definitely preowned.

Don't I look very Suze in my colorful outfit?

More Yellow - Outfit 27

Everybody looked so sunny yesterday, I thought I might just continue the yellow streak by getting this skirt in one last time before the end of my Summer 30 24 for 30.  Can you believe this 30 for 30 is almost over?  I feel like it's been fairly easy.  I haven't done all the charts and grafts and planning like I did with the other two challenges I participated in, yet I haven't been short on outfits.  I don't know if it's easier because now I'm experience or because most outfits only take two pieces, three if you count shoes.  Probably the later.
