Thrift Store Finds

I stopped by the Goodwill close to the University Campus for the first time. I was hoping to find some clothes that I could alter. No luck there, but I did make a haul on vintage linens. I can't wait to use these in some sewing projects.

Several yards of vintage fabric. Skirt, pillow for the couch, or both.

Three sheets to the wind. Maybe not, but the pink striped sheet is Marimekko marked 1986.

I love the little eyelet detail on this.

Working Girl

Typical teaching outfit. This one does stick to the architecture professor stereotype: black. I try to mix it up ruffles and print. You'd never see Corbu in either of those. Plus, the skirt looks kind of like a plan of city blocks, if they were extremely regularized.

Ruffle Shirt - Eddie Bauer
Print Skirt - Banana Republic
Patent Heels - Gianni Bini

Casual Day

Meeting with students about their projects. Next time I would wear a different necklace. This one blends in too much.
Cranberry Cardigan - Banana Republic
Striped T-Shirt - Old Navy
Black Denim Leggings - Target
Fabric Braid and Chain Necklace - Gap
Black Brogues - Aldo

Such Great Heights

This is absolutely the most fabulous dress I own. It was my Christmas gift from my boyfriend. He let me pick anything I wanted from Anthropologie and this was it. Pretty appropriate for an architecture professor, don't you think?

Dress - Such Great Heights Dress We Love Vera at Anthropologie
Patent Heels - Gianni Bini

This is how I decided to style my most fabulous dress. I definitely got lots of comments within the Architecture Department today.

Hot Pink Cardigan - Banana Republic

Modern Prof

This is what a modern architecture professor wears. It's not all black!
Black Dress - Banana Republic
Navy Cardigan - Ann Taylor Loft
Yellow Belt - Target
Locket Necklace - Vintage
Black Boots - Vintage

What I wanted to wear today....

However, it was incredibly windy and kind of chilly today, so I had to layer. I've really been inspired by J. Crew's use of the chambray shirt this season and this is my take on it.

Chambray Dress - Old Navy

Black Skirt - Banana Republic

Gold Fringy Necklace - Gap

So Cute It Hurts

I have the hugest girl-crush on Zooey Deschanel and a developing guy-crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This video only serves to heighten those crushes.

The Good Old Days.....

....when wallpaper was cheap and plentiful. Below are just a few of the wallpaper patterns I found in the little white house during the clean out.

Found in the kitchen, several layers down.

Also in the kitchen. This is one of my favorites. I'd love to have this in my own kitchen.

Bathroom. I would seriously, seriously love to have the mid-century fish in my bathroom as well. So cute.

Bows Arts

My newest Etsy purchase is from Heather Kelly of HK Collection. She has the amazing talent of taking cast off 80's clothing (hello shoulder pads!) and turning them into chic, modern pieces. I just love the top I bought. Such a great teal color and silky fabric. I also love the whimsy of the oversized bow. Be sure and check out Heather's work at her Etsy store and her website. I'm sure you'll love what you see.

Changes My Friend Are Blowing In The Wind

Exciting things are happening at my little white house. In the front bedroom room, the floor had a bad spot that was sunken a good six inches. We thought that the floor joists were running in the short direction across the room and that one joist has slipped off of the sill plate. After our carpenter, Gary, tore into the floor, we discovered that the joists were running the long direction along the room and that SIX different joists were snapped in the same place.

Gary (see below) shored them up. He attached treated 2" x 8"s to the broken joists and then put treated 4" x 4" posts running perpendicular under the ends of the joists. The 4" x 4"s rest on concrete blocks. This new floor is not going anywhere. The floor was then covered plywood. I'll put pictures of that up soon.
