Yellow Blazer - 3 Ways

Colored jeans were all the rage last fall.  I even covered how to style them earlier this year.  This fall the fun has moved from jeans on up the body to blazers.  A yellow (or teal or purple) blazer may seem intimidating at first, but I promise, it's not.  Think of colored blazers as the even more professional version of the colored cardigan that you are probably already wearing to work.  Below I've styled my new mustard blazer three ways for your viewing pleasure.

Work to Weekend

I rarely post about weekend wear, it's usually work, work, work around here.  It could be due partly to the fact that I have a bit of a weekend uniform.  It's usually these shorts or these shorts with a striped tee.  Fine for a single post, but it would get repetitive after a while.  I'm going to start a new series called "Work to Weekend" that attempts to incorporate my work items into weekend looks.  First up the champ of work wear:  the button up shirt.

2012-06-28

Button Up - J.Crew, Consignment Shop
Skirt - Vintage, Thrifted
Necklace - Great Aunt's
Bracelet - Mom'd
Belt - Thrifted
Flats - Thrifted

Nothing is more professional than a button up shirt.  Crisp, clean, androgynous enough not to freak out contractors.  But this office basic doesn't have to stay in the office.

Button Up - J.Crew, Consignment Shop
Shorts - Vintage, Thrifted
Bracelet -Garage Sale
Belt - TJ Maxx
Flats - Thrifted

Roll up your sleeves (if you haven't already) and you're ready to bring a preppy touch to high-waisted shorts.  I picked these shorts at my local thrift store for a song ($1.50 to be exact).  The red belt adds some much needed color to an otherwise monochromatic look.  Same woven flats as before and you're ready for your dressy casual weekend event.

30x30 - Outfit 30!

30x30 30

Blouse -Go International Target, Thrifted
Skirt -Vintage, Thrifted
Wedges - Jeffery Campbell
Belt - Vintage, Antique Mall

Last one!  Audible sigh of relief.  It's been a fun challenge but a long one. To celebrate the end of my challenge, I decided to go out with a bang!  Floral! Polka dots! Yellow! Red! A cacophony of pattern and color.  I think it's a fitting last outfit for this challenge.  Check back tomorrow for a recap of the whole challenge.  I'll be back to regular posting (and the rest of my closet) next week.

30x30 - Outfit 28

30x30 28

Cardigan - Gap
Blouse - Old Navy, Resale Shop
Skirt - Jason Wu for Target
Wedges - Jeffery Campbell

This outfit is almost unphotographable.  You are witnessing my third separate attempt to capture it.  Any amount of sunlight and this blouse turns into a white blob near my equally white face.  I even photographed yesterday when it was overcast.  Still didn't work out.  Just for kicks and giggles, I'm going to post one of the terrible ones.

Here it is.  Wooo! Ghost blouse.

This one too.  Giant hands are funny.

30x30 Week 4 Recap

Week 4

Well, I've already photographed Outfits 21, 22, and 23, so things are definitely shaping up for next week and for the last stretch of the challenge.  Still plenty of unworn outfits, so it's just a matter of wearing them at this point.  I had a good variety of outfits this week.  I finally managed to wear the gingham shirt and the white tie-neck blouse, two of my stragglers for this challenge.  Now about that pesky trench coat...

30x30 - Outfit 20

30x30 20

Cardigan - Loft
Blouse - Old Navy, Resale Shop
Jeans - Gap
Belt - Gap

True Confessions Time:  I'm a little bit over this 30x30 challenge by now.  I wore my first outfit March 25, so I've been wearing these 30 items for 30 days already, even though I've only posted 20 outfits.  I have more or less been wearing these items on the weekend as well just the "boring" outfits, jeans and tees.  Despite the whining, I'm not going to quit now.  I'm going to power through.  Ten more to go!

30x30 Week 3 Recap

Week 3

I had quite a bit of variety going on this week.  I only repeated the navy blazer (and some shoes). Amazing I still have a few lingering tops and a jacket that haven't made an appearance.  I've worn them, just not on days that I got a photo.  I'm trying to stick to my 30 items for weekend wear as well.  I didn't wear any of the items for yard work or hiking last weekend, but I'm sure you'll forgive me for that.

30x30 - Outfit 14

30x30 14

Cardigan - Loft
Blouse - Old Navy
Skinnies - BDG, Urban Outfitters
Wedges - Jeffery Campbell
Necklace - Vintage, Antique Mall
Bracelet - Mom'd

Almost halfway through and not even breaking a sartorial sweat yet.  I think the key to a successful 30x30 challenge is to chose 30 interesting pieces that you'll be excited to wear for an entire month.  Too many people (me included) choose lots of "neutrals", both in the challenge and in life, thinking that they will go with everything, but in reality you are just left with a lot of neutrals that "go", but don't necessarily make for exciting outfits.

30x30 - Outfit 8

30x30 Outfit 8

One trend I'm really loving for spring is the matching shirt/skirt look.  J.Crew and other retailers have been featuring the look.  I love that you have the versatility of separates, but can wear the pieces together for the look of a dress.  This particular shirt/skirt set was purchased at Goodwill for a cool $10.  It's amazing how on trend vintage can be sometimes.  Yellow, tie neck, polka dots, pleats.  This set has it all going on. What do you think?  Would you wear a matching shirt and skirt?

30x30 - Outfit 6

30x30 Outfit 6

I originally paired this outfit with a red belt, but that was too easy (and predictable after last week's outfits), so I decided to go with yellow instead.  It has a nice cheerful effect, I believe.

P.S.  There is nothing wrong with my leg, it just has a tripod shadow on it.  Don't want to get any rumors started.

Tee - Gap (I decided to sub it for the Rodarte for Target one)
Skirt - Jason Wu for Target
Boots - Frye, Resale Shop
Necklace - Vintage, Antique Store
Belt - Vintage, Thrifted

30x30 - Outfit 3

30x30 Outfit 3

Today I wore yellow, and floral, and red peep-toe wedges.....to a meeting with contractors about millwork.  And I'm okay with that.  Yes, I'm female and yes, I can talk shop about cabinetry.  It's the best of both worlds.
